Amen my friend, Amen

The dark air pressing against my lids
And wringing the last hope from my eyes
The windows to my soul, forever closed
Yet you hold my heart and let me cry

And once again, Amen my friend, Amen

The silence ripping and tearing at my ear
Gouging all that should be heard
Now quiescent noise so vast and bare
Yet you sing a song I heed unperturbed

And once again, Amen my friend, Amen

The cold, spilling across my listless lips
Arresting the last protests in my throat
My distraught declarations departed ships
Yet you thaw my telling tones, note for note

And once again, Amen my friend, Amen

Though life leaves me blind, deaf and dumb
And sucks my juice of innocence and light
You cradle me in arms that staunchly shielding
Carry me to eternity on wings so bright

And once again, Amen my friend, Amen

"The windows to my soul, forever closed"

Remember what I was saying about the walls we build? Spot on. For some reason this makes me think of Pink Floyd and how they described Syd Barrett's with the line "Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky".

Windows can so easily become walls. Yet there will always be someone on the outside trying to make contact.

    Great poem my friend.
