every ounce of pain

Do you know that if I could
I would
give you the whole world.

I would pluck it and clutch
every bit in my hands
just to hand it over to you.

Son I would steal the stars
for your eyes to shine,
but you already do;

my life wouldn't be the same
without you.

Don't listen to the kids
who say mean things
and don't let the world beat
the love out of you;

you are the kindest kid
we know.

The amount of caring inside
that little heart of yours
amazes me on a constant basis
and I wish I could take away
every ounce of pain
life has offered you.

Know this, I will always
be your mother and ever proud
of that fact. Forever here
to dry up the wet that rolls
down from big, blue eyes.

They are not worth being mad.

Rest assured you are loved
beyond any kind of comprehension.

Author notes

My son is not fully autistic, but he is on the autistic spectrum. So, basically he is an almost-twelve year old, but posesses the mentality of an eight year old. He is the most loving, kind kid you will ever meet. He gets teased a lot and it breaks his heart and mine. Sometimes, I have to hold him and let him cry. He just cries and cried and cries and tells me "mommy, I had such a bad day". What do you do?

I want to make it better, but nothing I do heals his pain.

  • This is a great poem you wrote for your son. I have an autistic son and yes the world can be cruel as my son was bullied in school, but with all he has been through he is a happy go lucky young man. Congratulations for winning the bronze, well deserserved!

  • wow

    this poem is full of expression and saddness. Good job!! Your son is Specail, he is different. What he has isnt, anything but a micharel, thats how me and my family take it. Just let him know that you love him, and that the kids dont know what they are talking about, one day, they will be sorry, and will start to be nice to him. talk to the parents sometimes that works too.. im sorry about your son, good luck!!

    Do exactly what you do. You can not take away the pain, but you can offer a safe comfort. Always be that to your son.

    Well done.
