Divine Reverance

I've often heard how life's a blasted bitch
How she is just the pits and she's a drag
How she can be a cruel and wicked witch
A vexing and a most perplexing hag
I've heard men say how she's a nasty nag
A succubus who sucks until you're dead
How she's a wretched wench who's on the rag
But rarely have I ever heard it said

How there's a halo that surrounds her head
And she's a precious treasure that is rare
As lovely as the blissful day you wed
And truly beautiful beyond compare
How she is good and gracious and is fair
Just like the magic maiden of the mists
With evening-scented wild flowers in her hair
And silver bracelets 'round her supple wrists

For all I hear are pissy pessimists
Who seem to feel that life is just a pain
Those miserable and mean misogynists
Who even treat their mothers with disdain
Who seem to feel their sisters are a strain
And their own darling daughters aren't so dear
Who feel their sacred brides are just a bane
And not a precious treasure to revere

For life is just like Venus with her mirror
And when you look at her with jaundiced eyes
That's just the bitter way that she'll appear
She'll be the nasty bitch that you despise
For when you cut her down and criticize
She'll look to you like she's a lowly crone
But when you praise her beauty to the skies
She'll shine just like a goddess on her throne

She'll softly strum her harp that's dulcet tone
If you revere her like she is divine
But she will surely turn you into stone
Just like the hag whose hair is serpentine
If all you do is bitch and moan and whine
And curse the one that you should celebrate
Should treat like she's deserving of a shrine
If you revile and you don't venerate

This dear and precious life some seem to hate
If all you do is glare at her and glower
She'll slop cold gruel upon your pauper's plate
Not serve you her rare nectar in a flower
For she's the fair Rapunzel in her tower
Or she's a blighted bitch who's ill conceived
She's soft and sweet or she is hard and sour
It all depends on how she is perceived

This is a good comparison. I admit that you could have used more suitable words in some places, but it did get the point across. Life is what you see in it, and if all you look for are all the evils, then you won't see much besides that. Well done.

  • It's funny... I really don't see life as either the trillium or the troglodyte... it just is what it is. Euphoria followed by a canker sore. Life is too short to ride an emotional rollercoaster (I say that in spite of marrying one!)

Beautiful rhymes and images throughout though!

    Bravo!

Wonderful, I am one of those that should be treated like a treasure, but there are times that my husband is selfish and has to have a wake up call on how good I am to him, he is miserable with himself so guess who gets the blunt of it for being the closest thing to him at the time, not abusive just negative and likes to say you are, I am a Prov 31 wife. This is real and a part of life that you captured in your write magnificiently. Blessings.
