Lost

The exit beckons in neon waves of light
calling me to take the path of escaping
this intrusion into my core and the truth
that is my being.

All the promises made lay tattered and torn,
like a paper chase through the shrouded forests
that were my heart, now deftly exposed by words
that echo sunlight.

Those steel blades of guilt penetrate emotion
as crimson tears flow freely to the fingers
that gently expose the pain of confession
and letting her go.

I watch her walk the passageway to the light,
leaving me in darkness with no sanctuary,
reaching for the answers that are not there;
I am so afraid.

The tranquillity I need fades out of sight
as terror builds the walls of captivity
that imprison me to a sentence of life;
there is no reprieve.

I am lost in a world deprived of senses
but the hunger remains for a loving touch;
forever denied as a breach of contract;
love has no place here.

    Harrowing!

    This is such a difficult and meaningful read. I keep coming back and re-reading, beginning a comment then erasing it. Your poem touches so many raw nerves, opens old wounds, old torments - 'there is no reprieve'. This is a memorable piece.

    Introspective and sad. And, I hope, ultimately untrue

    Beautifully done
