An' Another Thing...

Today.
Two years ago this moment could not have existed
in the wildest of imaginations.

There’s an old cliché,
night is always blackest before the dawn.
You told me,
baby, sitting on that step watching the windows close.
I laughed as I cried, scoffed at the impossibility --
you knew.

Our paths were jagged, etched from a map too large; now it
seems too small,
but time has a way of changing perspectives.

Looking back, it’s almost a shame that world is gone,
undervalued and hidden from view.

How I’ve missed you lately,
and the way you would speak and
all that we wouldn’t say.

And though the appreciation wasn’t adequately expressed,
I’m content in knowing my smile and thanks
was the best possible gift.

Today
I've found acceptance,
happiness, opportunity.
There’s no need to know the destination,
only the journey.
For I've learned it's the travels that matter.

Author notes

In the depth of winter, I finally learned that there was within me an
invincible summer.

I am forever grateful to those of you who have helped me get to this magnificent point in my life -- I never would have dreamed it possible. If you ever think of me, know that I too think of you, and though the little things seemed to make no difference, it is those moments that helped me out of the darkest of worlds. Though none of these people will probably ever read this (some I am not even in contact with anymore), I owe particular thanks to Erin, Jacqueline, Stephanie, Jordan, Davan, and Damion. And Kid and Frodo, the two most amazing men to ever enter my life. I miss all of you greatly.

    Love it!!!

Very emotional, Life is so unpredictable. Time has the greatest effect on everything. There's a certain carefree perspective I get from this poem. Very true stuff.

  • Sometimes the journey can be long and truly feel winter. What a blessing to have wonderful people in your life to help you through. A very inspirational piece. Best wishes and thank you for entering.

    Meaningful

Without those journeys, what do we learn? You've expressed it well and it's something that most can't accept that this is how life is played. Thank you for sharing.
