Words fell from his lips
Like water
All fire and dripping pearls.
She smiled wanly, lips curved upwards, shoulders hunched
Like a fortress,
Or a crescent moon
Sweet with regret.
He’d forgotten her
Like a torn page
A crumpled napkin
A stolen glance.
Those words, she said…
They’re meaningless to me.
Because she sat where she’d fallen
An unfought war
A hopeless admission…
As still as night,
Like a fallen acorn.
