unconditional love

I think back to yhe day we met and years we've shared since then
I loved you in an instant though I can't recall just when
It may have been the way you laughed at how I couldn't find
the place to eat I'd raved about and yet you didn't mind
We ended up with pizza and a corny t.v. flick
We stayed up late and laughed so hard, the next day called in sick
Or maybe true love struck me when the man next door got ill
You knew his pension wasn't much; in secret paid his bill
It didn't matter that he scowled each time you said hello
or how when you brought dinner by he said "it's best you go"
Perhaps I really fell in love beside you in the pew
where later we would say those vows which for me still hold true
I love our life together and the family we made
Though we are blessed, not all's been good and prices have been paid
So here I sit and hold your hand, to share with you my heart
I tell you how I've missed you in the time we've been apart
I say how you complete me and if one looked in my soul
there would be something missing as it's you that makes me whole
Regardless of the way things seem or facts I'm told to face
I have this love and memories that time cannot erase
Surrounded by machine and beeps as nurses come and go
I stay and whisper softly, on the chance that you do know
I cling to hope and say more prayers;let out another sigh
Eternal is my love for you. I cannot say goodbye
