Latitude

There was a time
when it did not matter.
The remembered centuries
the latitude.

Trudy's old man,
the one she ain't married to,
got out of jail
yesterday
crack
a stupid sin
but now she treats Matt bad,
even though
her husbands at home
with beergut & TV on.

These souls too,
chewed
cloven without an out;
this profit,
this commonwealth.

Something about that first stanza made me think about this whole poem for a few moments...Rather interesting the way you decided to construct this....Seems as if you might just be a complex thinker? Anyway simply a stunning write ...

Yah, I will use a word that you have used - complicated, for a short piece it is packed with characters that jump out at you, there hopelessness, their "unprettyness" (Desiree hit the nail on the head there). I agree, a very different voice from Lute...this is raw and in-your-face...but still a Lute poem, still very entertaining.

It strikes me as odd that Pa is a commonwealth yet the majority of its people are more common than wealthy, at least the streets where I walk.

This seems to be a different voice than your usual, nicely done too btw. Quite an unpretty picture.

no it isn't pretty. it's storyteller-like though isn't it? sure. i see them. chewed cloven, powerful. how sad for matt. especially if it her son. if i was there, i'd try to help. and probably get kicked in the ass. the only hopeful thing, is the lighthouse..although you say there is no way out..lighthouses guide...and maybe just maybe ...someone will get out ..i hope it's matt if it is her kid. sure he's seen too much..and has bite marks..but lisa always has hope..for the future..not much one can do about the past..except change the future.
