I understand why the caged bird sings,
Because on hope it's freedom rings,
But broken voices are broken hearts,
A beating pulse, shot down with darts.
How can your voice ever be heard,
When you are caged in like that bird?
A swift, pure cry circles the earth,
Not proving at all what love is worth.
Shining stars are slowly blinded,
Fading slowly, I am reminded,
Of the happiness you brought me,
Of the endless things you taught me.
From the bottom of my broken soul,
I watch you break what I console.
From the bottom of my broken love,
I sit below, and gaze above.
From the bottom of my broken heart,
I watch a whole break apart.
Because on hope it's freedom rings,
But broken voices are broken hearts,
A beating pulse, shot down with darts.
How can your voice ever be heard,
When you are caged in like that bird?
A swift, pure cry circles the earth,
Not proving at all what love is worth.
Shining stars are slowly blinded,
Fading slowly, I am reminded,
Of the happiness you brought me,
Of the endless things you taught me.
From the bottom of my broken soul,
I watch you break what I console.
From the bottom of my broken love,
I sit below, and gaze above.
From the bottom of my broken heart,
I watch a whole break apart.
Author notes
"I would rather learn from one bird how to sing than to teach 10,000 stars how not to dance". I was inspired by this quote to write about a caged bird singing and stars becoming blind. Although it does not exactly refer to the quote, it truly inspired me to write this piece.

I really enjoyed reading this. I thought the whole tone and mood changed at the end though and wasn't expecting that. It didn't seem to follow the first part which I enjoyed the most.
Thank you so much for your entry
