Guts oozed out against
black plastic
from the tray crusted
in the white deposits
of many days.
The tangy juice of
the freshest limes
wafts from their nearby
perch of newness,
sparkling in a spotless
un-fingered bowl
betraying their inadequacy
of taste
For the lemon slice
has been squashed beneath
a pile of fellows eagerly taken
and worked until
nothing but seeds and pith
remain.
Loved far more
than the lime alone in its goblet
of perfection.
The slice of lemon is
left jagged and spent
in its black plastic coffin.
