Kitchen's fresh-mopped floor.
Answered the ring in my jammies
And the Parson's at the door.
Would I please purchase a ticket
To this Sunday's bar-b-que?
Sorry, sir, I can't right now
'Cause my church is having one too.
Back in the kitchen I cut my foot,
Guess I didn't get all the glass.
"Put on some shoes," the Old Grouch says
And I say, "Kiss my ass."
He 'kindly' complies and amid shrieks
And giggles our son yells, "Rent a room."
Well! I can't rent his because currently
It is messier than the Pit of Doom.
Jam to some oldies, Wallflower,
And Oasis as I clean up the house.
Sing 'One Headlight' to the top of my lungs
With the Old Grouch and the Mouse.
Answer some emails during one of
My breaks from all the dirt and dust.
Ponder with my friend over the use
Of the terms "always" and "must".
Struck with inspiration and
Trying to capture the mood.
Wanting to get out and enjoy the day,
Not wishing to sit and brood.
A long walk or a country drive
Will make the day go by.
With laughter giving my soul wings
And love to make me fly.
Author notes
I am too old to be a daughter, but would love to be a sister or a friend.
I chose "family" and "fun and laughter" as my jump off point. It is usually pretty crazy around my house. The Old Grouch is my husband, Doug. He is really a sweetheart, but can be a bit of a grump. All bark and no bite... The Mouse is my daughter Meg...she is married and living in Dallas now. My son is married too...live in California. The youngest, Betsy is in college.
My husband farms watermelons in South Texas and I teach school at the local high school.
