I never thought
it would end like this,
I never wanted
to hurt.
the words;
they slipped so easily
out of your icy lips
like you've been waiting,
planning those
gut-wrenching words
that broke me
faster than you thought they would
one spark,
and the city's in flames
it burns hotter and hotter
'till you're satisfied.
you can exit
with a smirk,
after all,
you got what you came for.
the smoke rises from
the dying embers
glowing softly
under my feet
a terrible beauty
radiates
from within these
prison walls.
silent sobbs
fall upon deaf ears;
only one voice ever
broke through the silence
and now, all i hear,
is the deafning echo
of determined footsteps
leaving me behind
to find the line
between
my angels and the demons
you graciously gifted me
so,
i'd like to take this opportunity
to thank you.
