Daughter of the Tribe

Missing image
The knowledge of endless generations
is hidden behind the windows of her soul.
Her natural way of life has been denied,
so called, “civilisation”, has taken its toll.

Her heartbeat is in time with the earth’s,
she heeds with reverence, the teachings of old,
with inborn understanding of natures needs
and the tribal stores she has been told.

She wants to feel free, to live the old way,
the pulse of the universe runs in her veins.
Her history has been based on too many lies,
her people are almost shackled in chains.

Deep brown eyes with their golden fleck,
show her passion is barely held in check.

    Exquisitely accomplished...

The lament is heard through the lines of "Daughter of the Tribe". I did like this composition for its deep soul's emotions; imagery and subject dealt; and mostly for the message within. A majestic poem.

Much gratitude to the courageous author for sharing this jewel.

    Most appreciatively,

    Andre Emmanuel Bendavi ben-YEHU

    BEAUTIFULLY TOUCHING!!!!!

As I read your lovely words I am reminded of how the white man not only stole the native's land but in doing so destroyed a beautiful and widely range of cultures which were much wiser than the white man's ever was.

    VERY TOUCHING!!!!

Sadly this happened way to often to every tribe throughout the land. Their bravery and sacrifice never faded away though, strength of heart and belief was theirs always.

This is an absolutely stunning write that speaks of the yearning for this young girls inner wanting for her old native ways. You spoke with a big voice for her, showing the love and pride of her being. I don't know much about the native Indians except from what I read on here which I think would be closer to reality than what One sees on television. That picture is just so beautiful. If only they could be who they are and return to their tribal ways......Congrats on the gold, much deserved.

    Graphically Portrayed

A lovely true perception of the sad history of the much maligned and persecuted native Americans and their
portrayal as brutal savages in the hollywood media
who were driven at the point of a gun to forced repatriation from their native heritage onto barren land without means of subsistence(Those who survived
the long journeys and continuess harassment on the way
that is)only a comparative handfull survived.
But I digress it's a lovely well written poem
well worthy of the gold trophy awarded...George...

Thank you George for your comment and who could argue the truth of what you say. Maybe it is time for Hollywood to make some new movies to portray closer to the truth. LittleMoon

  • This kicks into fruition the thoughts I have held of na htse éme. If all could know the strength your words carry with that respect, it would be completely understandable and show the deepest thoughts she shares with these lines. Simply excellent piece here Little Moon, and deserving of the high award. Niaish for sharing.

I do realise how true this is for many young girls with Native American blood in their veins and I can well understand the reasons why. They walk proud again and so they should. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment aiyana. Sheila
