together again

fifty years ago
buildings on fire
muted roars of crowds
demanding more
to life
of life
than sirens
red/amber blinking lights
pepper spray
and clubs
rioting
fear being levied
through violence
in a country at war
with itself
youngsters murdered
kent state
students clubbed
ucla
berkeley
and on and on
the story
to Vietnam
to hell
and back again …
we look for the voice of reason
we search for a comet
as a sign
where is the light
drawing our attention
to humanity
to unconditional love
to compassion
for us as spiritual warriors
destroying
once and for all
hate and bigotry
where is our shining star
where is that guide
that heals
where is the healer
with the power
and strength
to lead
by voice
by example
through love
or is it finally
our turn
all of us together
to be that unified voice
and say enough!
and say enough, enough! …
to exclaim
it’s our world
not the governments'
it’s our Eden governments have destroyed
not just mankind
and it’s our time
our turn
our job
collectively
to rebuild
to again cultivate
the garden with the original spiritual essence
we all should live in
peacefully
lovingly
as one earth
and
one family

this breathes the essence of that time when beat poets

like Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Levy started the what would be the brink of change. Great form and meter sir...best of luck to you.

Thanks very much for your comment and compliment. I can barely walk in their shadows but I deeply appreciate your thoughts and kindness very much.

      Take care always,

  • a vivid description of an era of American History that is indelibly written on the souls of those of us who lived it. Nicely done. Peace out.

  • The presentation of chaos is spent well with the words and the way you've written this poetic happenstance dear poet.

    O how true this line is;

"it’s our Eden governments have destroyed"

We as a people have to unite as one to save this world, or things will be as discombobulated as they are in this poignantly demonstrated work of word-art and realty. I am surprise at the volume of words you've used my friend and their placement, as I know you to be a man of brevity. This works exceedingly well with the prompt. Thank you for this splendid entry and the message it so aptly conveys.

I wish you well in your aspiration to be the AllPoetry Poet Laureate

    YES!
And the way you displayed your poem here, accentuates the idea of the chaos that is the world we are living now (that we have been living for too long actually).
    Excellent read Don
