Not

Will you keep pretending and bending the truth?
"The victim was a good wife, who was never uncouth"

"I never cheated!
I didn't lie!
I never hit him!
I didn't make him cry!"

No... you cannot build a loving spouse,
By not bringing sins into your house...

You know what I'm getting at, but so far not enough...
(To change your script - that will be very tough...

To acknowledge the torture -
To credit how I tried,
To see all your cruelty,
And admit my love died

AT YOUR HANDS!)

To much focus on not being wrong
And too little love to help us be strong

Through lost friends
And broken dreams
Through trying illness
And split seams...

If just half of the energy you spent being wronged
Had instead been the love that I had longed...

I doubt then we'd be broken, exhausted, pale...
Rather than whole, vibrant, hale...

But NOT! And how I wish - and even pray -
That you'll fully accept your role some day.

It's not so I can say that I am right -
I just want the peace of a balanced light...

Look into your heart, Lena,
(Past all valid pain)

And see that for years
Your were a spouse just in name.

Gary
