Bad News

There is a young girl with tears cascading
I see through the open door.
Though I don't know why she is here,
I wonder what news was delivered.

What sequence of words could fuel
Such a frantic escape of emotion?
Her tissued hand daintily catches
Each drop as it jumps from the windows.

The clicking of heels from far away,
And flourescent bulbs lending an impersonal light
Do much to off-set such a private moment.
Her suffering pulls at my heart.

She straightens her back, turning her head
This reflection of mine is broken.
I give her a smile and continue my way,
Though I doubt my faint kindess would help.

Author notes

Blah, this is no good.
Written from the perspective of a hospital worker, one who passed me last night. I got some terrible news. I have a strange complex about crying in public, I can't do it. But the news was too bad and though I fought it, I couldn't hold it back. It was embarrassing when I saw that guy staring at me from the crack in the door.
And because of that news, I've had a terrible block. u.u
So this is just about those moments when unexpected tragedy strikes. In my case, news of pregnancy you never wanted. News that you're months farther along that you'd expect. And having that reality thrown in your face for hours and hours.

Sorry it's so bad. =/

No, it's not bad... it's actually very well written... my heart goes out to you I really hope everything turns out okay for you. You can make it. "Her suffering pulls at my heart"-- I feel this line, I feel the perspective of the man you saw. I like the fact that you get a smile at the end... no matter how insignificant, it pulls the piece back from depression.

    Thank you for the entry,
