The Dough Baby, The No Baby

So we pray to stars and other
Incon(sequin)tial far(ce)-away nothings,
And it all burns down to ashes
That we scatter At a place that means
Some thing or other
(It’ll only blow back
in your face with the salts and the dry French whines
people offer at times
like this)
But it means no thing.
It’s of the bruises
And the battered wombs
Oh God We cannot live
In bits, and pieces. Peace is -
Too far gone and fuck You
With your gates of pearl and winged pissing pigeons
Because I think, its more than oh well
Never mind (head shake)
Awful luck- (hand on the shoulder_)
-Jolly sorry (cheapish flowers)
Best wishes (never come true).
And It was a girl.
And there was so much.
And
And Nothing.
Star(e)Dust and empty prayers
He’s not listening He’s not looking
He’s not interested in you.
Despair – is a place
It’s brown, and grey, and black, and blue,
And its red, raw,,
So we choke on our hope
Swallow it back
To the dark of our deepthroats, the caverns of Eve’s
Barren. Clinicallyspeaking something must be (wrong)
It could be him, she’s had the fucking tests, the rest
Of the grief
And she can’t do it again
That’s it.
No more trying
She just, she can’t. The night(the fight) is too long.

Or was it her, a reject, a defect, defected, effected
Us.

Author notes

My best friendwas pregnant.. the baby died.
And her sadness tears me apart
What could have been.

That is emptiness.

Please tell me what you think

Wow, this was a beautiful poem. I'm so sorry about your friend's baby... I can't imagine how it must feel. I'd like to say something comforting but to be honest I'm drawing a blank. I'm sorry and once again this is a beautiful poem and I hope your friend feels better.

I like the style here. This is very hard to pull off, as not many people can read it with the intended flow and rhythm. This was done very well though, and kept me engaged the whole way through.

I'm really sorry that this happened to your friend, and I wish her my consolance and the best of luck. Losing a child before it's born must be an awful feeling. It's someone you love but haven't met yet~ And then you lose all hope of ever meeting them.

Beautiful write, thank you for the read. x

  • So sad. We lost four pregnancies. The first, and in between the four children we had. I wrote one poem about it, "Missed" I think. Try to help your friend find the beauty that is still there...

  • Omg i'm so sorry about your friends loss
it's awful when babies die before they're born, it leaves such a hollow feeling.

"He’s not listening He’s not looking
    He’s not interested in you.
    Despair – is a place

    And its red, raw"

I can tell how sad you are by your friends depression and stuff and that makes you a really good friend. Where was this baby's father?? I really hope he's there for your friend right now, if he isn't then he's a total jerk because he should be helping her get through this

I hope you and your friend can both keep your heads up, no matter how hard it may be. all the best to you<3

  • Oooo this style is hard to pull off, but apparently not for you. I enjoyed this!!!

To each its own , but I say , got to a corner somewhere in your space , find a soft and warmly place , get on your knees and ask for peace , so the despair and heartache can release. I know of a being that cures all , knows all , feels all , and wants all to know , you too are loved no matter the situation , and its complication , just reach out your hands and ask , it will be done and fulfilled the task. Let go that feeling , and if its just words, I apologize , but if its feeling , open you eyes. Read the greatest book in the world.

  • This tore me up so much the first time around, then rereading it with the background story made it even more powerful. I know nothing that I say can be right here, but I wish her the best healing, and for you, too. I've lost someone recently, and it hurts, her being a friend... nevermind a child. It must be agony.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend and her loss. I send love through you to her and lots of warm snuggles.

I could relate to this, but in a different way. a friend of mine died in june and when my friends from chicago told me about it I felt horrible for them because they knew him better than I did. it just crushed me knowing that he was gone and he'd never make me laugh again but I felt like my friends had lost something more because of their relationship with him. I hate seeing my friends suffer because of loss and what someone could have become.

This was incredible, it makes me feel so shambled. like this unseen, racing tornado had blown through me and before I knew what happened, it was gone.

    I can relate.

I had two miscarriages, one at seven months and another at five months. There is nothing that can be said that will quench the hurt. I have also seen friends go through a death of a child after it was born. Still later on down the road we finally come to terms with it. Not easy but one can.

    This is heartbreaking...
Your wordplay in this is fantastic and the fast-paced way that it seems to be written only added to it.
    This form suits you well...
I'm sorry for your friends loss, and I'm sorry that it's tearing you up so much.
I don't even know what to say, except .

Even though you don't know me... if you need to talk, I'm here.
