Public service announcement

The problem with the world today
is that we stifle our children,
we critisize their creativity,
undermind their individuality,
deprive them of the freedom to think,
punish them for self expression,
We've given women the right to vote,
blacks the right to be free of slavery,
but our children have never been free.
How often have we been told
that a child is to be seen and not heard?
How many times have we justified our abuses of children
with the words because i said so?
How often do we commit physical harm on a child
and say that its ok because they arent 18 yet?
Parents so often wonder why their children rebel
well its a simple answer,
When you deprive a fellow human being
the basic rights due every human
at some point they realize this and respond.
Why is it that as adults we forget how it felt to be treated
as though we had no voice, no choice, no rights?
How many times as children did we get forced to do all the work
that the parent was supposed to do?
How many times as children did we get told to be silent
because our voice was not important even though everything
that was said and done effected us as much as it did everyone else?
how many times did we get slapped for responding to an injustice commited to us
and get told that we were not old enough and had no right?
THE VIOLENCE IN OUR SCHOOLS AND IN OUR STREETS WILL STOP WHEN WE STOP TREATING OUR CHILDREN LIKE SECOND CLASS SUB HUMANS AND START TREATING THEM LIKE THE EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS THEY DESERVE TO BE.
