Missionaries

Matchless, boundless, eternal.
Hopeful, faithful, prayerful.
Searching, seeking, finding.
Joy, happiness, bliss.

A soft knock on a door.
A smile, with two missionary badges:
Elder Smith and Elder Jones.
A kind word, an extension of a hand,
and the slam of a door.

Discouraged, yet they repeat the cycle.
So many more doors slammed in their eager faces.
Very few ever opened...

Yet they seek willing souls
seeking God.

Author notes

I just picked random last names for the Elders.
This was a quick write about what my missionary boy has been going through.

How was this one??

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

Be of good cheer. Christ was denied by his own people as well. What a gift it is to walk in his shoes. You must be proud that your son answered the call. Blessings will fall upon you for raising your family in the ways of the Lord.

    peace.

Very descriptive. If they were on their own business, it would not seem unreasonable to quit after repeated poor receptions. "Discouraged, yet they repeat...yet they seek souls / seeking God." An example for all of us to live up to!

"Discouraged, yet they repeat the cycle." I like this tribute to their daily attempts to spread the gospel. My son just returned in Feb.
