How sad that all the folk who guarantee
The lives of varied things that they produce
Can never know for sure when they'll receive
The only offer they cannot refuse.

One of the first poems I have read so far in the contest that actually deals with abstract thought. The abstraction is defined by metaphors, which I interpret as parents raising children. However, the poem has a negative connotation, so the "offer" that cannot be refused can be anything terrible a child can "give" to their parent.
Death, love, marriage, happiness, and more could all fit. What was originally intended?
And, also, I find that the last sentence ran awkwardly, if you wish to revise it. -
huh?
Made me read it more than once.
