Quiet Stillness

Softly nature speaks to me
visions of beauty come through,
explanations quietly flow
love’s power delicate and true

Strength in quiet solitude
speaks loudly in my soul,
my heart one day will silence
stillness surrounding me whole

As I lie beneath the earth
embraced in acquired peace,
happy to have been alive
resting as all words cease

Author notes

My  poem was inspired by:

"I Shall Be Loved As Quiet Things"

I shall be loved as quiet things
Are loved--white pigeons in the sun,
Curled yellow leaves that whisper down
One after one;

The silver reticence of smoke
That tells no secret of its birth
Among the fiery agonies
That turn the earth;

Cloud-islands; reaching arms of trees;
The frayed and eager little moon
That strays unheeded through a high
Blue afternoon.

The thunder of my heart must go
Under the muffling of the dust--
As my grey dress has guarded it
The grasses must;

For it has hammered loud enough,
Clamored enough, when all is said:
Only its quiet part shall live
When I am dead.

This poem was written especially for this contest.  It isn't a prewrite.

I didn't understand the contest, so when I revised my entry  I couldn't figure out how to make it look like a new poem.

    Just a wonderful write that was quite soothing and alowed me a silent moment of contemplation. To be at rest and feel that pleasant feeling of peace really was shown in your words. Such imagery was very clear and the whole piece so relaxing to me. I like the poem also that inspiered you, but yours is very special in its own right. Thank you for sharing this with us. I wish you the very best in the contest.

  • Impressive write. I wonder quite alot about why we can't have peace of mind and a sense of well being in life. It seems the harder one tries to be a good person, the harder we get knocked down. At least me anyway. You did a great job on this. Good luck in the contest.

  • Comforting

    I once read a book about all the trees in the world. In this book I found a remarkable photograph of a whole forest of dead larch trees. The narative I have never forgotten..."Even in death there can be beauty". Your poem reminded me of this. More than this...in your poem I find a sense of hope in what feels like the ultimate peace of human passing. I guess to some extent this could depend on a person's religious leaning? Nevertheless...your poem offers comfort if readers want to take it.
