Riverbed Cobblestones

you words, they flow -
      through me
like a river
through a
(rain) forest

The currents,
  with the moon
                    , weather.

When they are thick
    they toss and turn
                me about -

pulling me under your
          white capped - rapids

I drown in agony -
      when you river runs thick.

But, when your words are
        light and warm

your riverbed
          cobblestones show.
of all colors do they brightly
    glow from under your
          trickling current.

your tepid water
wraps around my ankles -
        like my covers
a security.

touching me deep within -
  and cleansing my physical.

soft rocks below my bare
                  feet
warmth rising -
when your words are light.

keep them light, love
    as the summer moon.

Author notes

First one in a long while. I'm a bit out of touch, but I'd like to start writing more soon....

I'm in a very rocky relationship, and I don't think he understands that you can hurt people with words....

Good work! The metaphor held up through out without becoming unintelligible.

I come from a family of gifted talkers. We are all very good at coming up with devastating verbal formulations. Amongst ourselves no body takes it seriously. It is just a style but I have to be careful talking to strangers and girlfriends who take it at face value.

    Good luck.

This poem is very beautiful, I loved the spacing in it. Too bad people don't understand the power of their words, both to build up and to tear down.
