we are engaged in a time of great distress,
where there's chaos and turmoil everywhere.
The love of many has waxed cold
as we have become a world of callous
self seeking people who have learned
to turn our backs on one another.
We've followed the ways of bias and
avaricious leaders who have lost their way.
Settling for materialistic pursuits
at the high cost of their own soul.
Forgetting that we're all linked together and
rise or fall on the strength of our weakest link.
Everywhere in the world we hear about death
war and destruction.
While our little ones fall by the wayside everyday.
Lost in discontentment and misguided ventures,
mediated by those that seek their own selfish gain.
We as a people need to get back to basics
and learn to love one another.
The hopes and aspirations of each and everyone
of us are connected by threads from the same cloth.
The tapestry of humanity necessitates repair,
for the stitches of our hearts are bleeding
with apathy and hatred.
Let us recommit our devotion to this great gift of life
and unite as one mind for the cause of a better world.
Understanding that only by love can we solve
the tremendous complexities set before us.
To gaurantee our children the same rights given to us
which are a better future in a world of many wonderful possibilities.

Superb Plus +
A very fine write, with which I quite agree, especially in relationship to the poor and homeless amongst us. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

Unbelievably Briliant!!
This said volumes and then it shouted from the tallest mountain to all valleys and sailed all seas.
Everyone should hear and read and speak
from the heart within these words then again.
Wow!
Thanks for this fine share and congrats to you:~)

Thanks
Your description of the perils we face and the direction we need to choose is eloquent. Thanks for a nudge of verbal velvet over cold hard facts.

Very well done
So much emotion. Words that explode with truth. Very smooth reading and with such an impact of thought provoking images. "We as a people need to get back to basics and learn to love one another" is my favorite.
thanks for sharing

its true that the world is full of chaos, even a little boy or girl can tell that everything is not well,we find people choosing death over life because there are less good things to live for...if we dont take a stand on world peace no one will, because we are all contributing to this chaotic world, the little wrong things we do can lead to more bad things that happen as much as the little good things we do can make a difference......great work

So well said, the most important message needed for today. You've stated so well exactly how I feel and exactly what troubles me these days, and you've done it so well. Very Powerful indeed, THANK YOU

Now this is what should be billed on billboards!...This is inspirational and humbling...Awesome...Regards Hazel

What it lacked in poetic style, it was made up with power and insight in a most excellent way.
If we all obeyed your message, the world would be a much better place.
Excellent write!

I love the points you are making here but I am a bit confused in that it doesn't read like a poem but more like an essay. Usually in poetry there is either a rhyme or rhythmn scheme, or similies and metaphors are used or imagery or something poetic. This could have been read as a speech, sermon, or documentary. In short, I found no poetic form. Was that your intention?

Let me respond here John...
The requirements for this challenge were as follows;
"If you could write a poem; from a platform of encouragement, healing, and as an instrument to promote goodwill, humane behavior, and civility… Then, read it to the people, what would it speak?"
I think this poem, which has no boundaries, as Ruby Dee once shared with me;
"Poetry is what the heart speaks, regardless of rhythm or rhyme, and sometimes inclusive of both..."
Because poetry is subject, this piece read like one of the most profound works of poetry I have read in quite some time. I believe MLK's speeches were poetic, so were those of Malcolm, Marcus Garvey, and many others who left a spellbinding impact on their audiences. I also found this work of poetry in 'near perfect form' and that is why it was selected as the winning entry. I think the writer did as asked. Yet, as the contest host, I respect, and appreciate your observations and opinion.
I do hope that darell responds to your inquiry as well.
Much Love Always ♥

These words are words that are easily identifiable! I see you standing, reciting this forceful work of poetry at a podium, in front of millions, world-wide.
And those who have an ear, let them hear. ~Mark4:9
This is a poignant work of words poet. I felt like standing on my feet, shouting...YES! And again I say; YES!
This is what I wish EVERYONE felt. It is sad that there are those who have no inkling of what you speak. You did well before your audience. I thank you for this entry and wish you well as you aspire to be the AllPoetry Poet Laureate
Much Respect ♥

one again AMAZING!!!
Although many people think the same way, and realize that we all need to do our part in saving the world... many won't take action... sad really that humanity will in the end be the end to us all... even though many will not commit to do more than there share there will always be someone willing to hold up more than they need to and with people like you we have HOPE... let's hope that the message will get through to those who are to dense to sense the danger we are all in...

Wonderful Aries
The comments by fellow readers have really said what
I was also thinking.Some 'Leaders"of many countries
have no thought of their country men's plights.
Billions of Dollars seem to disappear, not to where ít'was intended in aid .Great write. -
DEAD ON!
spelled out clearly, and honestly
and it was good to hear
every single word.....
now only if we could manage
to all arrive in agreement
on how......and what specifically is
our responsibility.
We're all going to have to do some "sweat equity"
so to speak to re-build our homes of peace
and prosperity.
BRAVO! BRAVO!

Excellent
you have framed a beautiful truth here - telling like it is - if only man would learn from past mistakes and realize that violent retaliation is not the answer - military equipment boils down to - "If you build them, you will use them" ---keep on penning - I just posted a poem "How Good Is God" - Bless God - Joe -------------------------------------- peace

-
Amen to that! Nice weaving metaphor here, especially in the lines "The tapestry of humanity necessitates repair, / for the stitches of our hearts are bleeding / with apathy and hatred." You've imbued the piece with a wonderful message of hope, and I like the clear and frank phrasing you've used to shape your message. Well done.

-
An apt title, can we, yes we can, Calling All Nations, a call for personal and collective responsibility. A humanist piece of prose speaking in the international language of peace. Whether in the midst of a financial boom or a credit crunch empathy costs only the exchange rate of the heart.

-
