They sat under the moon. Soft grass comforted their feet. The stars anchored in the sky. He wondered if he could count them. A falling star came by. Her warmth was nostalgia when it touched against his own. His thoughts swirled with shades of hope. If there was melody in silence, they were composers. Only the two of them heard its music.
“we used to be falling stars.”
“why aren't we now?”
“you were wished on. that's why i came true.”

Orange weaves the horizon, the signal of morning's light. The arcing outline of the sun slowly rises. They watch with eyes reflecting endless tulip fields and ocean beds. The vastness blinds them, and they glue memories from broken ceramic visions. They realize that shortness of breath is the taste of clarity, bitter and unrelenting. Things start to make sense.
“we’ll forget it all someday.”
“i know. ”
“it's funny.”
They listen to the crashing tide, and feel the quiet sweeping of the clouds.
“we'll only fall again.”

They will spend days riding steam engine trains and just letting the sky bleed away. She will be the gentle frost within their snow globe world, and he will be its arctic wind. They will roam arid lands and walk on stagnant waters, and leave smoking spirals in their wake. He will sleep on mahogany floors and she will keep herself awake to admire his sleeping face. With each passing storm, they will rejoice. Time will pass as fast as Saturn’s rings. They won't look back. They will simply fade again, dreaming.
~
He hums a familiar tune, as they lay under the moon's hypnotic glow, ever absorbed in the darkness of the night.
"what's your favorite constellation?"
He smiles.
"us."
