Sheep that Herd Themselves

On the cobble path to the wooden door
Branded with the symbol of ages
Asking penance, patience and perseverance
Seeking reverence from penned pages

Like a flock running from the sheers
Sins slicing further than fleece
Only trying to clear the conscious
Before they are allowed some peace

Their divinity designed by mind
Providing perfect structure in each
Only guided by a charlatan
Oh! The falseness in the words they preach

As these patrons depart the wooden door
Has the battle in their head concluded
Does a sheered sheep feel relief
Or does bare skin make them more deluded

A very thought provoking piece and as a poem it is well structured, in my opinion, flows well and the meaning is clear. You have made your point in a personal way without any insult or anything that anyone could take offence at. Well done. I have my own beliefs and reading this changes nothing and I am not offended in any way, which I think is the way you intended. Sheila
