He brought you home from work one day
to find my nose turned up
And as I tried to let him know
I did not care for pups!
You looked so sweet, as if I care
to bathe you I say not!
I fluffed your ears to make a point
there's fleas and ticks in spots
At first you slept in basement cold
I wondered if you knew
How wonderful it felt up here
'neath covers that were blue
As days went by I could not bare
to put you on the floor
I lay myself on edge of bed
listening to you snore
The snow was falling softly down
upon the springs new flower
I put you out to do your thing
in night-time's darkest hour
I watch you track around the house
with moonlight soft as gauze
To bring you in the bed once more
the snow stuck to your paws
You place them up against my back
your head lays cross my neck
My little one now rules the roost
my heart is such a wreck!
to find my nose turned up
And as I tried to let him know
I did not care for pups!
You looked so sweet, as if I care
to bathe you I say not!
I fluffed your ears to make a point
there's fleas and ticks in spots
At first you slept in basement cold
I wondered if you knew
How wonderful it felt up here
'neath covers that were blue
As days went by I could not bare
to put you on the floor
I lay myself on edge of bed
listening to you snore
The snow was falling softly down
upon the springs new flower
I put you out to do your thing
in night-time's darkest hour
I watch you track around the house
with moonlight soft as gauze
To bring you in the bed once more
the snow stuck to your paws
You place them up against my back
your head lays cross my neck
My little one now rules the roost
my heart is such a wreck!
Author notes
This is true! My husband brought me a puppy, knowing I didn't care much for animals in the house. And now my Jazzy Girl sleeps with me and he has moved into the other room! I just love that puppy! and he is such a sweetheart for sacrificing for me! The picture was taken a couple of weeks ago. She is much bigger now.

Funny how things work out in life huh? Though it was with a person, I too recently made friends with someone I never expected to. Nice rhyme scheme and sweet story. Thank you for your entry.

oh now I remember reading this one before. I don't see any comments made by me but I remember it vividly. It is a wonderful write. I love the way you took us on a trip with your puppy and how it came out so happily. Excellent write. I enjoyed reading it immensely. Thanks for sharing this with us.

You have told a wonderful story in rhyme in this poem. You've done well with the progression from apathy to love.

I love Great Danes! They are beautiful animals. My little Jazzy is a boxer mix and I'm not sure what she is mixed with, but I love her.

Oh this is heart-wrenching. I love it. We have a dog, 4 cats, a koi pond, a desert tortoise .. wild birds that we feed ... wild rabbits and their bunnies ... two of our cats are old and the oldest is sick. I'm trying to nurse him back to health but am worried because he's so old.
