Distance-
Not the great yawing physical distance
But a gaping sadness felt in the heart.
When, after a eight-month lifetime we are brought together,
In one days' eternity we are split
Fractioned by time and destiny itself.
Some came early, while some came late,
But shared experiences made us all laugh.
And through each group smile,
and with each echoed tear
We grew stronger, closer, tighter.
Now, life gathers up each of us-
Individually setting her hand over our hearts;
Leading some, teasing some, forcing some.
But go we must, and achingly, we do.
Memories will glow bright for a while,
Then slowly being to dim.
Until one word, one smell, one thought
Brings us all back, connected,
to East.
Author notes
You all have meant so much to me, whether I have said it or not. Thank you all for what you have given me, and what I have learned from you.
