To My Irish Eyes

Missing image

When my Irish angels are happy,
Sure, 'tis like the song of Spring!
In the lilt of our family laughter,
We can hear the heavens sing!

When happy chimes are ringing,
All the world is a cheerful day!
And when your Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they melt my heart away!

But when grey skies cloud your horizon,

And those Irish eyes are sad,

Remember I'll always be there for you,

For your Irish eyes to be glad!

'Cause when Irish angels are happy,
Sure, 'tis like the song of Spring!
In the lilt of our family laughter,
We will hear all of heaven sing!

With Love,

Author notes

Dedicated to my beautiful  grandchildren:

Haley(top r), Ashley(top l), & Wesely(bottom), with love.

(My poem above, was inspired by this famous song, below)

When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.

When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.

    Cyn,
This is a great take on the song, your version is very touching and full of love for those two wee dotes.
I love the pics of them, they look as real children should...dressing up is all about the joys children shoud be having. They look very happy and healthy.
    Loved this.

    • Thank you, thank you!!

I am so happy you stopped in to read my li'l Irish poem for my grandchildren!! Although I changed some of the words, you recognized it immediately as that famous song, "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" - but of course you would!! Thanks again Dolores, your thoughful comments touched my heart and brought a smile to my face!! Take care, and may peace & love always be with you and yours!! Slan, xx Cyn xx

  • This poem is a great take on the original song and those girls look like angels. Happily you avoid writing about the famous Irish temper, which I remember so well when I think about my grandmother:
When our Irish Granny yelled at us
    We children shook with fear,
For when we failed to heed her words
She’d yank us by the ear.
But usually she was very sweet and even spoiled us with love and sweets. After reading your poem I hope that someday those two sweet girls will do the same for their grandchildren and pass those smiling Irish eyes down through the generations. Very good write.

    • Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my "treasures"!!

I had a little chuckle when I read about your Irish grandmother... although I haven't had the time to respond right away to your comment, I really appreciated your thoughtfulness, and thanks for the kudos, too!! Peace & hugs, xx Cyn xx
