Where did she go?

Where is she It has been so long since
the days when she was here
at least it feels like that
and I look around and think where
where where is she I want to find her
she was ill I think and the woman
came with her assistant and mum
was crying and my aunt
and someone I didnt see before
then they put her in a blanket
I know she was old but where did she go
I do not understand
Oh I miss her so much and the way she
stole my food but she was my love
maybe I will see her again when she is
back but...

Author notes

Recently one of my dogs had to be put down, and this is just a relatively short poem about how I think her companion who is still alive might think of it. The complete lack of punctuation is intentional, to make it read like a thought, and of course the style of this poem is inspired by the poem "Wodwo" by Ted Hughes.

God knows that I relate to this one. My own Lab has neuro damage to her rear legs and will soon be unable to get up from a lying position. We are dreading the day we will have to put her down. It is so difficult for her now. I already cry occasionally.
This is beautifully written, but does not reflect the thoughts of a dog. Bless you and I hope your grief will be softened in time.

  • Oh sad, I have often wondered how my dogs feel about such situations. I think you put it well. I feel the confusion of the dog and his yearning as well. Good Job.

Awwww! That is soo sad! Why did you have to have your dog put down? I think you did a great job in the form of getting it to seem like a thought!
When I read it and even before I read your Authors Notes I read and felt it like a thought! Very well done!
