In a perfect bow
Delicately placed
Near the American Flag
A faithful mothers fingers
Twisted and twirled
As the father looked with respect for his son
His picture in the living room
Portrait proud in Green Beret
The stars and stripes in the background
Of his rigorously trained smile
Stern yet soft
The face that has seen all
And he has seen death
So that I can live my life
He has lived through the war
And that’s why I live in peace
So this honored yellow ribbon
Tied to the tree
Is a dedication to him
And those who keep me free.
Author notes
I took the color yellow somewhere else with this one. It is in dedication to our troops. Not only in this war but in all our wars.

This is a sweet tribute to our troops and touching. I wish more people felt this way. Very nice poem. God bless you and keep you, Mark

Thank you very much Mark.
May the Lord bless you and keep you
May the Lord shine his countenance upon you
May the Lord look upon you with favor
And give you peace
Go in peace, serve the Lord.

Kat
I like this poem and I admire that you, a 17 year old, took on the salvos of a 67 year old a multiple personality/bi-polar/transvestite to get your poem down on this page.
More to your credit and more's the pity.
There but for the grace of God go us.
Great poem!

Yes! I agree!
"I admire that you, a 17 year old, took on the salvos of a 67 year old a multiple personality/bi-polar/transvestite to get your poem down on this page."
Three cheers for Kat!
A very brave young woman with the courage of her convictions! -

Which war would it be where American troops have been fighting for freedom in the past 44 years I wonder? Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan were more about oppression, surely?
-
-
Whether they were fighting for our freedom or not, they have helped ensure our freedom. Many men have died to protect our country- and keeping America, America is what keeps us free. So indirectly thse men have fought for freedom.
-
-
Kindly explain to me how dropping napalm on Vietnamese women and children, how killing over 100,000 Iraqis, how feathering the nests of US oil companies, how totally failing to stop the Taliban in Afghanistan, how training the Israelis to kill Palestinians with US-made phosphorus bombs, etc etc, have "kept America free". It is activities like these which led to the attacks on the Twin Towers on "9/11".
-
-
It is clear that our beliefs are different on the war. I am sure you have more knowledge than I do on why we are there. but the fact is America has been involved in wars, oppressions, whatever you would like to call them. Our soldiers were not the ones who chose to fight them. It may have been bad judgement on our goverment- I cannot argue with that- but the fact is our men still deserve to be honored for their actions.
-
-
In the same way that we should "honour" the concentration guards at Auschwitz who were only following "bad judgement" orders, I assume.
-
-
Pardon me for saying this, actually don't because at this moment I am filled so much fucking rage right now. You aren't even American so don't judge unless you have been here. YOu were not an American soldier and I doubt you were from the family of one if you speak with this much disrespect. You can criticize the way I write, my grammar and my spelling, but don't you dare for a second think you can criticize the men you have kept me free. It's true- I wasn't alive for World War II or even Vietman but I am alive now. I am living with death around me, death of my family and friends who gave their lives to keep me free. You don't live here, you don't live with the freedom that I do, you don't realize how sacred it is, so until you do i suggest you shut your fucking mouth mouth. Because a lot of people on here have the same view as me, and justified or not that have lost their lives for us. and that deserves honor
-
-
I suggest you wash your mouth out with soap and water. Let me tell you that we live in freedom in Britain and we don't need to honour murderous soldiers to do so. Good bye.

Very good, Kat.
I saw that prompt last night and thought, "Yellow? Hmm... I can't think of a thing!"
But you hit the nail right on the head!

thank you

I like the idea of this. It is very powerful and I enjoy the last stanza, very much. You feel like you know this man.. however, you did not follow my instructions. This has no dream-like quality, and it's not all that joyous.
Anyhow, thank you for entering! -
-
I tried to make it more abstract than dreamlike. I don't know - I just feel like it had more meaning than any other yellow thing I could think of. No, I suppose it's not that joyous, but then again it is joyful and thanful. Though I guess mainly respectful of our soldiers. I'm glad you like it.
