A little song had echoed from the distance far away
A happy song I knew so well that made me sad today
I bowed my head and cried a while the pain was hard to bare
My little angel from above was calling me out there
I heard his voice I felt his wings as he went gliding by
The tears ran down my hurting face I knew this was goodbye
A gentle touch a fleeting touch of golden wings I saw
A twinkle in his loving eye would welcome me no more
For just a moment time stood still I saw his cheery face
I felt his love all over me his song I did embrace
I heard the tune he sang to me the peaceful little song
The words he sang bore into me they said my friend so long
A song of harmony rang forth my angel came below
To tell me that he loved me still but that he had to go
I felt the spark of life go by I didnt want to cry
The day my angel came to me to tell me its goodbye
And now Im left with heavy heart his memory strong and true
When I listen to the songs out there my friend I think of you
Forever will you be near to me Ill have you in my heart
Your golden wings will comfort me though we are far apart
A little song a fleeting song had called from far away
A happy song I knew so well that made me sad today
I heard his voice I felt his wings as he went gliding by
The tears ran down my hurting face I knew this was goodbye

Will you please enter this in the contest that I am running at the moment - it's called In Memory Of Our Pets, this fits the topic theme beautifully -
To be honest, I've never had a bird [but always wanted to have a Blue Crowned Conure or an African Grey] but ... Gosh, you captured her spirit here so beautifully, it brought tears to my eyes -
It's so hard to let them go, and to live without them!

Thank you. She was indeed a very special friend to us. I try very hard never to see them as pets, but rather as a friend which they are and keep us so grounded in life.

Pets become part of the famly. And their loss is very greeving.
And as usual you blended rhyme and story together in a beautiful way.

Some folk never understand just how attached one can become to a pet.I think that they are missing out on the joys such creatures can bring into ones life
Excellent

Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. I tend to be quite weary of people who cannot connect with animals. They are the joys of this earth, and Shag was our best friend.

It's amazing how close we can get to our little pets, though we're different in every possible way. This is a very poignant and touching tribute to Shag. It's too bad our pets can't live as long as we do, but I'm sure he had a wonderful life with you.

ah, how very sweet - your little budgie must have been very dear.
I'm sorry for your loss.

This is a masterly write. I had a tear in my eye as I read. The rhythm, rhyme and flow is perfect and the poem itself quite magical. thank you dear poet.

Thank you, Bob. Little Shag was such a treasure. She liked to sit on the table and eat dinner with us from a little plate...otherwise she would sit on mine.

The feelings expressed here are similar to those i felt when Little twin, one of our chooks died quite suddenly. Wonderful write.
