Easter Bunny Has a Cold- Monsters to the Rescue

Or "The Nightmare Before Easter"

 Warning- Scary Images;

Recommended for Children

8 to 80...

The magical, furry ball of baskets

the hider of prizes, the bringer of grasses

stuffed with once-a-year, egg-shaped chocolates

the lover of colored eggs, carrots on green plates

had caught himself a bad, no, a terrible cold;

a cry went out to the young and the old

for a replacement, yes, a bunny replacement

to add a mad dash of rabbit-earred flair

to the morning of Easter, this very year...

Everyone's hearts sprang forth, and all

responded quite quickly to the desperate call;

but not everyone, it soon became crystalline clear

was meant to be the Easter Bunny, this, or any, year...

A small, friendly alien, some would say cute,

responded first- tried on the suit

and became the first Easter Bunny substitute;

until, that is, red Martian bug stuff

appeared in the baskets, and that was enough...

Joe Cyborg came forward, dependable, tall,

and better- he jabbered that he could do it all;

but for some reason the Easter Board of Trustees

didn't think Joe had that 'right bunny image'...

Bigfoot stepped forward, and a big step it was,

to try on the shoes of this great Easter cause...

but he was shy of the limelight, and at the last minute

he got cold feet, his heart just wasn't in it...

Mr. Green, Zombie, (who was volunteered)

had a little issue (well, a really big fear)-

he was deathly afraid of his pink bunny ears...

A big t-rex

was tried out next

they tried to train him

it only pained them...

no matter how hard they prodded and tried

he ate all the bunny ears (he had fifty inside)...

They thought they could fool us with a cute little toy...

but nobody was fooled by that lame, quirky ploy...

And at the last moment Mr. Bunny got better,

the monsters were so happy they knit him a sweater;

all were relieved he came back to save Easter;

and the clerk who thought 'monsters'?

They had to release her...

Yes, all were relieved- Mr. Green at the morgue,

Bigfoot and friends; but mostly, Joe Cyborg...!

    I wish I could say I loved this, but to say I loved this just wouldn't be strong enough so I'll have to
    SHOUT IT>>> I LOVE THIS!!!! and tell the monsters not to dishearten... I hear Uncle Sam is on his last legs... and with the 4th of July coming up in a few months ...???? well there could be another opening yet. Red, White and Blue would suit them all.

    You brightened my overcaste morning!!

      yes, Mr. Cyborg and Mr. Green are a bit strong (but I tried to make them accessible lol, and I was trying to keep with the animatronics theme); I'll have to put a warning label at the top- "scary images, recommended for children 8 - 80"...!

    great writing

    love those creatures , but long live the cute easter bunny.

  • this was funny and cute. i loved all the pictures they made the poem. but, call me sick or whatever,i'd love to see the looks on the kiddies faces if they saw either of these hopping along the bunny trail or popping from behind a tree as they search for easter eggs. knowing at least two of my grands like i do they'd ask for help tracking down the treasure, the other two would run like hell. anyway.....i loved this.

    This was a briliantly written piece that had me smiling from ear to ear. Love all those creatures who tried out for the easter bunny, but alas, noone can take his place. A super piece that caught my attention in the feature section and i am so glad i came to read it. I wish you the very very best in this contest. Well done.
