Rising as the coffee begins to brew.
The water gurgles as it passes through,
Awakening me from a near coma.

Interesting; I put this drink down as I don't drink it because the smell alone makes me wanna gag
but I like how you've described how if affects you in a positive way

i'm not much a fan of coffee at all to be completely honest. i just hate the taste and the smell of most coffee products. but i do know all too well how much people depend on coffee, and i think that's what made me laugh at that last line.
great rhyme scheme as well; keep up the great work and best of luck in the contest!

I love coffee. Even when I am down to my last dollar I will buy coffee unless I have absolutely no food at all in the house. The smell of it is even a pick me up. Thank you for reading and commenting. I am glad you enjoyed the poem.

But of all of the addictions that I could have, this one is not so bad. I really do get a pick me up from the aroma. It is the anticipation I think.
