Alas! This was the place
Where the white hands met
Aye, skeletal and singular
Every man for himself.
If you can call them men,
They took it further
Much further.
The gold and jewels,
O they never ended.
They could raise a whole army
With their ill-gotten gains
Most famous for not existing.
And by this, I mean what?
They left no survivors!
How can history be written
If there is nobody to write it?
Yes, a cruel bunch - tortured and slew
Everybody who could expose
Their shameful existance.
How can gold and glittering gemstones be pretty?
When they are covered in blood.
The rubies don't mind, but the emeralds hate it.
It rains on their parade
They have no owners now.
The days are past, the knowlege lost.
Maybe one day, one day...
One day will come, when a lucky explorer
Finds his incredible inheritance
That doesn't exist.
Where the white hands met
Aye, skeletal and singular
Every man for himself.
If you can call them men,
They took it further
Much further.
The gold and jewels,
O they never ended.
They could raise a whole army
With their ill-gotten gains
Most famous for not existing.
And by this, I mean what?
They left no survivors!
How can history be written
If there is nobody to write it?
Yes, a cruel bunch - tortured and slew
Everybody who could expose

How can gold and glittering gemstones be pretty?

The days are past, the knowlege lost.
Maybe one day, one day...

Author notes
Im not sure exactly what was wanted with this contest, I figured this was as near to opening a dusty trunk in a dungeon, since by the tags this was not meant to be real hehe. Tried to keep it pirate themed also for fun.

The spirits are in battle for the treasure, interesting that the rubies don't mind the blood, it doesn't clash with them as it would with the emeralds. You composed a great pirate poem

Sounded piraty!

I guess it's in Davy Jone's Locker, a lot of it. I liked the way you personified the emeralds and rubies; it kind of highlighted the great value the pirates put on them.
This is a wonderful write and left me with goosebumps.

This is a unique poem. I like how you kept to your pirate theme and I like reading this one aloud. My favorite part is the last 5 lines. The Drama is there and the ending is a bit unexpected. Great Poem.
