I remember it rained
last time I saw you
five days straight
afternoons grayed by belching thunder
foliage soaked and neon green
fern leaves dripped and ducks
their feet the color of pumpkins
stood in puddles like tide pools
while frogs on lily pads
croaked their poignant songs
I remember you
barefoot in clinging clothes
one strand of yellow hair
plastered to your face
lips thick, soft as wet suede
tears trickling down your cheeks
stood there, shivering and cold
looking forlorn as blackbirds flying
south in the sad steady rain
