Do You Know What I Mean?

Do You Know What I Mean?

When I scream
It's a dream
When will I wake up?
You hold me down
Spin me around
My head is swimming
Why can't I breathe?

In close the world
All around me
Im in so much pain
But all you do is laugh
Why me?
Why me?
Questions throwing me out of control

My life is rolling
down a hill
Will it crash?
Or will it just build
Till the end
Of my days when earths love had gone by
And there's no more tears to cry
No more oil to fuel the flame
No more happiness
No more shame
No more red x's along my hand
No more strength left in me to stand
And just no more me

Or will I find a strong hold to lean on?
A sun to grow my tree
Of my very being?

Cut off these infected limbs
Throw away the vines of your laughs
Your hurt
All that you have caused me
To suffer through
Take away it all
Slowly
Carefully

Surely I will hurt
Because nothing can compare to the bites of our inner being

But when it is over
The white flag is up
You have surrendered
The war over
There will be peace
In my sorrowed mind
And I will smile
When i get back my life
My hopes
My dreams

Throw away fear
And what do you have?

Invincibility

Do you know what I mean?

Author notes

You can interpret this poem however you want to, and it can be describing many things in the way I wrote it, which is what I intended. However I made this for a reading project through the eyes of a teenager who has to deal with her rape, so incase your wondering you can look through that perspective too. (the book was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson; it's through the eyes of Melinda; I highly recommend this book to people of all ages )
