//For Diego and the humor of it…//
“That was yesterday. Yesterdays don’t mean anything because you can’t change them. Today we can change.”
-Diego, Entaché
A neon sign
the flashing lights
a name
a face
a mask
a hidden fortress in the eyes
that no one ever truly sees.
If I had my way I would be up there
piercing through eternity with nothing more
than who I am
and what I’ve come to do.
A volunteer fireman by day
a crazy halfway-human by night
tearing through Copland
armed with a smile and a silent force
hoping that my peace is enough
to save them.
The superheroes we know
are not like the ones in movies.
They don’t wear capes
or masks
or spandex suits
or fly through the air.
The superheroes we know
die everyday
just because they care about
everybody else.
