Eternity

Missing image

I find myself

wrapped in time's silken embrace

Hanging,
an illuminated
spectral being.
Suspended by a single thread

Eternity
spreads it bat-like wings.
Luminous,
enveloping everything.

Years like heartbeats flee.

Author notes

Since then – 'tis Centuries – and yet
Feels shorter than the Day

the bat like wings brings a dark tinge to the poem i think with a different wing perhaps one signifying something brighter this is gold

the photo stole my heart, there is achildrens book called Luna, it is about a baby fruot bat who got seperated from its mother and a bird rescued it, a great story so when I found this picture I knew something would grow out of it, thanks for reading and commenting, it was just that your piece made me rememebr this one. thanks

When I first say the picture, I thought," How beautifully silky are the wings, how soft the fur!" And then your poem compared Eternity to this image -- and Eternit suddenly seems more - - manageable?-- likeable/ -- embraceable... very beautifully written, my dear friend! Lita

I fell in love with the little guy (girl)

it was your poem Luna , that pushed me in this direction his violet wings, I know it is a strange write, but I am glad you liked it

I love the way you correlated eternity to a bat.
This is sweetly creative, I love it

  • silken embrace....beautiful...!

    becca

  • ooh, very interesting take on the image, though I wouldn't say silken cocoon if I were you, because this immediately summons a butterfly into the imagination, seems out of touch with the idea of a bat. Never seen anyone compare eternity to to a bat, though...I love that. So much meaning derived from such a simple image.

      my humble thanks

hmm when I started I was thinking od a butterfly, sort of, somehow had an image of a Geisha's bound feet, not sure why that is haunting me, anyway, going to work in cocoon, home sick and feeling kind of weird, hmm must show

      • Hmmm, interested you thought of bound feet...bound by tradition? by etiquette? Geisha's bound feet always make me think about all that I cannot do because of social constraints.

          I know,

I am just lost in Old Japan in my head right now, not sure why, but yes the social mores to most of us are constraining but we forget about how women are still mutilated in Africa and other places, to satisfy mens vanities and need for control, my that sounded a bit harsh I guess must be the cold medicine
