destiny.

You are one hard bird to follow: Your golden wings tilt in the sunlight and scream emeralds and sea, and I am a sunken treasure -

I am eroding, becoming sand washed up with the tide, burying feet and hoping they will stick.  Like you, the gull, who pauses to see if I carry small crabs that want out of their misery.  I ask you please don't fly stay grounded, but your toes squelch upwards after your meal.

Along with the crustaceans, you have swallowed a bit of me, the warmest wettest bits that feel ticklish inside.  And I am still here lapping the ground.

The sky feels too hot.  It is dizzying, laying here breathing without air.

You took my lungs to feel the wind against your face.  Gulp down as much as you wish, but remember a part of you is me now.

You are one hard bird to follow, especially when I am meant to be the earth.

Author notes

I wrote this for Alan because I miss him. And will continue to miss him even though he'll be here. Talk about cheesy.

Not cheesy. Cherish that feeling that holds you in it's hand. It will not let you fall.

    Well done.
