With a gust of my breath
I send them swirling
to their unknown destinies.
Tiny parachutes lift in the wind
Some catch updrafts and are soon
lost in the clear blue sky.
Others drift to the ground
and are caught up in the grass.
A few are seed for birds.
It is the same in life.
We whirl half out of control
and hope for a soft landing.
Some seeds will take root
and others will not.
It is tragic and wonderful.
I wish them luck as I turn away
and look for another stem
holding countless dreams.
