Watching You

Missing image
A twisted mind can not forget its pain
It sits, fists pounding concrete in the rain,
As passers by ogle what has become
And wonder if he was once a someone?

Was he a king to walk in high places?
Was he in polo?  Watching the races?
Was he a man as mere mortals can be?
Did he ever find peace, sublimity?

What happened to cause his outlandish rage?
Does he long for the time of quiet days?
Is there hope that sanity will return?
Or for this passion will he always burn?

I saw him wiping away his lone tear
And knew there was something of a small fear
This gave me hope that insanity left
But when he spat, I was left this bereft

My father doesn’t seem to see people
I know he lost freedom in the deep hole
This is where he’ll spend the rest of his days
Where his eyes will speak of madness’ glaze

    Thanks for entering!

This is a great poem. And thanks so much for entering. It is a poem of integrity, for sure. Drugs and alcoholism are a hard topic to write about, and especially when it is a family member involved.
