Yes, the staff of Obama (those artistically inclined)
had decided it was the most opportune time
to choose for America its next Poet Laureate;
They sent a request, at Obama's behest,
to the Head Honcho here at AllPoetry's desk
to come up with suggestions, to help them find
an esteemed Poet Laureate, and Mr. Honcho complied-
he decided the poets with the week's most applause
would earn the honors, and, deep in the clause
it said Obama himself would be choosing the winner...
and he did...!
Meet Molly Appleblossom, our new Poet Laureate
who dazzles her friends with bright, clever verse,
who can now stuff $100,000 into her Anime purse
because she brought tears to the eyes of our Commander in Chief-
a winner from AllPoetry- what a relief!
Even more incredible, as this story unfolds-
our new Poet Laureate is eleven years old...!
She has riches and fame, rides in long limousines,
has dates with Oprah on national TV-
a starlit born, from talent won
by writing with us, right here, just for fun!
Congratulations to America's new Poet Laureate!

I thought it was real...
But if it had happened THIS week, we'd be stuffing money in OUR anime purses... no wait... strike that... reverse it...

-
-
OK, just my anime purse... lol and your pocket with that hole in it...
-
-

No... I said reverse it... like we could put our anime purses into money....
into our gigantic, wonderful, teetering piles of Oprah money... -
-
sorry, like the movie "Lost in Translation", that was "Lost in Visualization"...

Hi - Capitalist - lol
My son (a capitalist millionaire) calls me the "poster boy of capitalism" - lol - he says he followed my instructions and guidance to get him where he is today - lol he just laughs when I talk about the evils of capitalism - lol - and he agrees that it's a good system that needs bulwarks in place to keep it on track - as far as Canada's health care system goes - I pay into it so there is no way am I a slave to it - don't be afraid of it - we have had it here for 50 years - and in B.C. we have state auto insurance - best thing that ever happened - now I am pushing for state dwelling insurance that is paid with your taxes - we have billionaires and capitalists here that function freely - within paremeters of course - All the capitalist's that I know (had lunch with 2 today) here love our socialist system - I won't get into your quote - lol - but I do agree with you that a free-enterprize system blended with socilalism would be great - but then you would just be another Canada - lol - Bless God - Joe ------ cheers -
-
Son?? You have the spirit of a college student! lol (which I like) Well then, a big congrats on your son's financial success... I guess that makes him more of a socialist "giver" than a "taker"... but I've given some practical thought to that scenario and it's not a pretty picture... reminds me I'll have to write a piece on that in detail... Bulwarks, yes- the first one that comes to mind here is "selling short" in the stock market- the Dutch banned it in the 1600's... here you have hedge fund investors buying into, then ruining, companies, just to get a return when the stock falls... critical commodities is another area... but then, I've never seen a government that could manage anything well, which is why ours stays out of it; slap the abusers as they arise... as for the cynical fat cats, well, they're fat, what more punishment could there be? Yes, cheers- for in these discourses we stab at reality and we never really pin it down- life is, after all, more complex than the weather... my son will graduate from U of D here next month- he'll probably earn more in his first year than I do now working two jobs! and so it goes...
-
-
Congrats to your son - he probably will earn more - lol
My sons (5 of them) earn so much - it's unbelievable - and i have one son who is a preacher - pastors a small church - and drives school bus to make ends meet - and so it goes - our government stays out of running things - they are not there to do that - and when they do - they screw it up for sure - lol - we elect them to be a guide and protector - btw - don't give the abusers a chance to arise - when being questioned by the Ways and Means Committie - the fat cat answered and said - noooooooooooo it was not 500 million I took out of the company - thats an exageration - it was closer to 250 million - lol lol lol ---- three cheers for capitalism - Bless God - Joe -
-
yeah... that reminds me- just whose fingers are all these billions in stimulus going to pass through- I'd like to know who and keep tabs on their standards of living... (if any had a sudden increase or move to Rio, I'd suspect a sticky finger or two...!)

LOL, very cute. I think everyone pretty much knew but the idea would be something very interesting to see play out. I wonder who they would pick.

From this site? Hmmm... some mighty big heads here for a bunch of dabblers like us lol The question is, should a good poet be chosen, or someone who is steeped in poetic history and theory of craft- because the most fascinating poet might be a train wreck as a person, while an academic type might not have a single creative spark to his/her name... I'm suspecting there is a lot of politics, socializing, and behind the scenes kissing involved, too... which is why no one knows who the last 500 poet laureates were...!

Dobar Dab Here
April fools is over and I still hope and pray that your nation will become a Socialist State as my beloved Canada - the best country on Earth - a close to true democracy as you can get country - not a 2 party dictatorship like the U.S.A. as Jesse Ventura would say. Norway the most benevolent nation on Earth per capita it is a socialist country and has been for decades. The capitaist system is a good system untill the fat cats are given a free hand (a blank check) to do their evil - those crooks are the scum of the Earth - Even our (Canada's)economy got hit because of the stupidity of the Bush years in office - and the backward policies of Reagan - what a zero - trickle down economics - lol - what a capitalist concept to make the rich mega rich and the poor sccapeing the bottom of the barrel - what an utterly evil system hatched by evil men - your beloved capitalist system sure went for shit - not beause it can't work. but because there were not enough bulwarks in place to keep them fat cat crooks on their toes - you can blame Obama for the mess - but that is a typical American fair - blame everyone else - lol - whoaaaaa - I better stop before I start preaching - and bring Jesus into the fray - lol - the bestest Socialist of all time - Bless God - Joe -
-
it's alright- nothing like a good political vent! though I'd still judge in favor of capitalism- evil fat cats aside (though I see that character trait in people right down to the bottom of the barrel, as you put it- a breeding ground for future evil fat cats, in my view!)- one example is our Mexican illegals- to put it broadly, the "capitalists" come here to work, the "socialists" come here to suck off the system...!
As for Canada- I've traveled around it, I think it's a great place, even Montreal where I can't speak the language! and all those good hockey teams lol... on a more intellectual note I've heard good and bad things about the state health care system, I'd stick with a private system, myself, more innovation and modernization (for those who can afford it), and I wouldn't feel like (be?) a dependent slave... me? I can afford mediocre health care, but if I wanted better, I'd simple work for it in a capitalist way... or I can wait for the latest and greatest to become common and cheap, as it trickles down (as Reagan so correctly put it!) to the middle class, and then below, such as Canada's state health care system... oops! lol sorry...
My favorite two memories of Canada? In Montreal I was clothes shopping, and the old guy who worked there looked up at me and said something about "pantaloons" lol and "champion"... maybe he thought I was a champion of something (the little guy? lol) or he was merely flattering me so I'd buy some "pantaloons"... the other is going to Windsor from Detroit (I grew up in the Detroit suburbs); it was like going from Hell's Kitchen to Disneyland; then, going back to Detroit from Windsor across the Ambassador Bridge there is a little sign on the bridge, "Welcome to the USA", and the backdrop? The the dark, dismal, dirty, and dangerous Detroit ghetto...! lol What a contrast! So... it tells me that pure Capitalism and pure Socialism have there benefits and their pitfalls, and someday we'll be smart enough to meld the best of the two... I still think my quote sums it all up nicely... as for the two-party dictatorship here? Meaningless, the voters are mind-controlled by the Media... what a brainwash job this past election! Brazen is putting it mildly!
-
-
Haha.
For some reason, I sorta thought this was real for a little bit! Everyone has gotten me today, though, so oh well.
Great write.
Blessings,
Katie -
Wonderful,
I felt like a kid again and I couldn't help noticing that the violin is bigger than him, Yeaa,
this is poem of the week for me,

-
-
Intriguing from a psychological standpoint, how this piece made you feel like a kid again... hmmm...!
-
-
Ya Got Me - LOL LOL LOL
Great bit of trickery I must say - beatifully written - Obama is the kind of guy that may just do that - he would have taken the U.S.A. to the pinnacal of Socialism - if the bush team hadn't left such a big mess - lets hope and pray that Socialism will prevail - Bless God - Joe ---------------------- peace

-
-
yes, April fools! Something tells me your message was the same... lol Socialism, good grief! (I'll have to write a loooong essay on my views there... I do have my own definition that sums it up: "Socialism- as an exception it is humane, as a rule it is lunacy!"
-
-
Hahahahaha such an adorable poem! I clicked on it of course thinking it was real and completely forgetting the date, and I came upone a highly amusing poem that made me giggle inside. Keep up the amazing work!

-
Haha that is very funny. I love the way you've written it too.
Holly.
-
that was cute. Good luck (if you're aiming for the Poet Laureate status)!

-
-
I thought about it, my State's position being open (and my state being quite small lol), but no matter how good I get, I'll always be a dabbler... (hey, nice title for an Anthology of poems from AP... yes... funny what responding to comments can spur...!)
-
-
Wouldnt it be nice if our governments put more effort into the arts and humanity instead of riding with big business and war machines maybe just maybe the poet has a lot to contribute a lot more than some of these no brained so called political advisors and their Big company lacky's ...although it is an April fools joke the biggest fool is us sadly...and the joke becomes sour...a look at the brightside and for that I thankyou

-
-
yes, I've been thinking that it might be good for the US to have a Libertarian in office for a term or two... would probably trim off all the excess fat... lol
-
-
Oh this is just PRICELESS!

-
LOL!

-

It's like that joke about them taking 'gullable' out of the dictionary, I'm always the one turning round saying,
"Really? They can't do that!"

This was really good, It's been staring at me on my list of poems to read!
Nice to read your work again, my friend.
Thank you for sharing this with me!
Kind regards
Sophie

yes, I noticed you added a dash in your name, kind of looks like stitches...!
-
-
We elves like to appoint our poets laureate for rather longer periods than just one year, but I can see this new one will serve you very well.
Molly Appleblossom is a very fitting name for such a high dignitary I look forward to inviting her to accompany your good president on his first visit to our kingdom ...

LOL
you had me for a while! I was sad, yet happy for Miss Appleblossom! Kudos to you! *going to work on some April Fool's jokes of my own now!

-
Funny or is it?
I am glad it is an April Fool's joke for if it were true it would only confirm his lack of attention where it needs to be since his Socialistic or is it Fascism agendas are taking over our sovereignty is slipping away. He is stripping us of our life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness. We are in jeopardy of losing our basic freedoms our constitutional rights… no one seems to care wake up America for this scares me to death…but… hey lets just say la de da all the way till he bankrupts our Country, you go Obama
“We The People” Were are YOU!!!!
Say No To Big Government..Please this is your America..let's take back our country!

thanks... as for Obama and the media, I've given some thought to what going on and why (to which I'll have to write a long, cutting political (sociological?) (psychological?) essay...)
-
-
Great Idea
It is a person like yourself that gets envolved that makes the difference you could reach a very diverse audience here. I am looking forward to digesting all that you pen..thank you!!

-
Oh God, that's the South Park cartoon of me...I don't even need to read the poem now, haha. There is no way I could read it with a straight face.
But I did and and enjoyed it so much, haha. But maybe I'll to confront Ms. Appleblossom about stealing my image. I mean that's practically a picture of me standing with the president.
