When you trip and you fall,
Pretend it's all right and smile like a doll.
Act like nothing's wrong.
The show must go on.
You're "okay".
When bruises snake their way along your arm,
Put on some cover-up and there's no harm.
Makeup doesn't hide the pain.
But as long as the audience won't see those purple stains,
You're "okay".
When you think you want to die,
Make believe that you can fly,
As if making believe will take it all away.
But whatever you do, you mustn't let those thoughts betray
Because as far as anybody knows, you're "okay".
When you get those lines of fright,
Just turn on the bright stage lights.
And for goodness' sake, if you must cry
Cry buckets of glitter from your eyes!
The shimmers and glimmers will distract
Giving you enough time to act
Like you're "okay".
We can't stand to watch
-your house of pain-
We'd prefer that you just
-fake it-
Try your best to entertain
We just can't
-take it-
Let us think
-you're happy-
Ignorance is
-bliss-
Hum along to something
-snappy-
Anything but
-this-
Cry your tears in the dark of the night
And DON'T turn on the light.
With sequins in our eyes,
Give us sparkling lies!
Dance and sing and twirl.
Perfume us in a blinding swirl.
We'll go along with anything you say.
We're desperate to be oblivious and gay.
Life is naught but a barren play (and we know it!).
So we need to believe that you're
"okay".

Ooh, lovely! The beginning is a bit slow, but I love the message and you really pick it up about halfway through. I really liked the section where you changed formats. From "We can't stand to watch" on to the very end of the poem was very enjoyable to read.
This entire poem reminds me of myself, especially of when I was younger. You already know what I'm talking about, so I don't need to recap my "happy" life story.
Anywho, thanks for entering ^_^ I was excited to read your entry. Though, I actually look forward to reading all entries lol.
Good luck! -

Thanks.^-^ The change in format was actually an afterthought. I didn't like the way that section was reading, so I went back and edited it.
Oh! Mrs. Haslam said she'd be on my panel. WOO
