The silence is growing
it's deafening my ears
and slicing through my eardrums;
can't you hear it?
The pain is expanding
it's breaking my heart
seperating it into thousands of shards;
why can't you feel it?
Voices that cannot be heard
and dreams that will never be told,
lives that cannot be lived
and bodies that have been raped and soiled.
You have successfully silenced a nation,
a community of innocence,
a whole world of lovers
and their only crime?
Love.
Are you so afraid of your own sexuality
that you must force others to be ashamed as well?
Are you so afraid of your insecurities,
that you need everyone to experience your hell?
I will not be silenced
not by you or anyone, anymore
I will stand up and be heard
because I would rather die for what I believe in
than become a prisoner of your war.
Equal rights is for everyone
or so I've heard,
so when are we considered
part of that elite world?

Wow, I enjoyed this write. Your message in this is great, and I really liked how strong the message is. I enjoyed the words you used, and the truth of every single one of them. Great job on this and good luck in the contest.

I haven't heard anything about this yet at Crestwood, but as far as I know they're still going to be doing it this year. Awesome poem.
