One would wonder...
Can one die anymore
From a shattered heart?
Shall we hold
A requiem mass
For the soul
That once carried
Happiness
For her eyes
That glittered elation
Here lies the cold shell
Of a woman once in love
But love has betrayed her
Spit in her face curses
And walked away without guilt
Gripping at what's left of her
Prepared to be laid in earth
She screams into the dark
"Remember me, but ah!
Forget my fate..."
Let us take her loveless corpse
And lock her safe in the mausoleum
That overlooks the sunset
Will she stay at rest there
Or shall she return, still looking
Still longing, for the one she lost?
Cast her forlorn tresses with blossoms
Leave her husk for Father Time
Her soul shall evade these torments
Forever and ever sweetly, finally, and peacefully
Author notes
An opera by Henry Purcell inspired me to write this.
