a Poem From Middle Earth

'For the greater Good of all'? I ask,
underneath the crumbling walls of Gondar.
Perhaps,
some day she'll come along,
and wonder what it was
that sent me forth
with dented helmet
and rusty armor
into the the darkness of Mirkwood
to flail at trees
with sticky words
and all the pain of Aragorn,

Perhaps.

Such tales as these!
Left upon the moss ridden trees,
on the edges of streams,
in leas,

that she should find
long
after I am gone.

will she know
that I chased after wizards
and Bombadil,
made friends with owls,

and spoke softly to myself,
of kings and Elves?
That I laid upon the hills,
with my hand resting on my chin,
and looked out
toward Mordor and shivered?

Perhaps.

as it is,
I am filled with wonder,
and do not pass the flowers
carelessly.

In this line: 'underneath the crumbling walls of Gondar.'

the title of 'Gondar' is actually 'Gondor' here is a link to a map of Gondor for proof http://home.worldonline.dk/valis/Tolkien/Maps/Map5.htm

I've read a few LOTR poems, and most of them aren't that good. But, this is, this doesn't seem so much to be LOTR but moreover somewhat it and somewhat another viewing of life.

A good piece that you have written here.

Like a naughty lover sent to pick flowers for the centerpiece...who plays much more than he works, and smirks as he dances through the trees, dallies at the streams, hoots at the owl and dreams his dreams.

I don't know if that is enough flowers.

This is magical in its effect. I love the last line it has such music and reminds us we are on an adventure and may not pass this way again.

    don't touch it

    lol at UB1

If the archangel hadn't prophesised that the capital of Ethiopia would begin with the letter G, you might be off in Wondar, which is nice too. Just look out for Fasilidas, I hear God speaks to him. Tana may be your only escape.

I like this. It's different and the last stanza is beautiful. Never pass the flowers.

I normally hate elvish stuff, I think because of being force-fed Tolkien as a child. But this one was just magical. Boyhood love song to real girl or muse - it doesn't matter I guess - carving names on trees, respecting the names of every flower, and making friends with owls. I like making friends with owls. I do it now and then.

I like sticky words. Words that stick like sticks, thin, woody, lashing our own small sticks against the bark of mighty oaks, leaving just a scratch, I guess, or splinters on our hands. That's how I read sticky, rather than sticky like glue. For what it's worth.

Very grand piece you have here, L-Man! Will anyone ever know where our hearts and minds travelled once we have departed? (don't know if i would want people to know everywhere my heart and mind has travelled...let alone other parts of me!hahaha).

The only line that really kind of gave me an odd image was the "with sticky words"...gave me a rather yuck feel and i am not sure why...just...honestly, i don't know. So, maybe i should shut up and just say...great tale!

Fanciful escape to a parallel universe! I enjoyed this - I am ignorant of the middle earth mythology, but instinctively it feels right. Your last lines, "I am filled with wonder and do not pass the flowers carelessly" is a perfect ending and reflects my own philosophy. Good, evocative work!

this leaves me feeling lazy with wonder.
once, at 4AM when I had to let the puppy out,
i was kind of in a fog but there, not 10 feet
in front of me, on a branch fallen near the edge of
the property, was a great horned owl with his back to
me. i couldn't believe it. oh i had seen owls at night up in trees plenty of times
but never sitting there on the ground so still in the early dawn light. he twisted his head to look at me...and i left before he did. the puppy didn't even scare him away. it was like i interrupted his world and i guess i did. man thinking about this now, i've had some amazing animal encounters recently. oh well, a story for another day.
anyway, lute, give the jasmine a whiff...i find it delightful.

    Nice Poem

Let me guess, this poem has something to do with "Lord of the Rings"? I liked it. It's not really what I go to when I want to read a poem, but I like listening about elves and wizards and stuff like that. Nice write...
