Invidious,
These days I find it near impossible,
Looking away from so much…I want
Such beauty pretends your face.
When I try turning, even to leave, still,
I will find myself,
Trying not to turn your way
Risking my return to you,
Touching your swollen belly
Soothes my eyes.
Even in blindness; turned away
Still, you comfort me.
Whenever I chance to speak
It is not my silences’ wish, to my defeat,
That vanities,’ ill winds, expel my words.
In truth, knowing that if I ever exhale
Then I am seeking your gaze;
Even when looking away.
It has finally come to that.
There is a charity of measure
That in not seeing you
I, somehow unaccountable,
May not need to believe truths.
Oh, Invidious
My love
My faults
They are many
Yet you
Only you want me
My impressing needs
My tactile maneuvers
My tongues’ desires
My entreating eyes
Prey
For want of release
Beg
For lack of courage
Crave
For fearful needs
Bled
For what may be
Lived
For no relief
Prayed
To no avail.
Vanity was a child
Until Jealousy raped her
Begot you
Now we are one
This is what we have become.
I envy us now
For i cannot see me
…Anymore,
Goodbye
My dearest,
Invidious.
Author notes
Envy is the emotion that will cause a man to look at his neighbors house and think that it is a better house than his yet, instead of making his own home better he burns down his neighbors.

This was quite interesting to me. I was surprised that the title... a rather strong, negatively connotated word was followed by such lovely thoughts. You drew me in to an alluring, seemingly loving situation...and then BAM! ... you brought the ending... the truth. It is as if the reader is afforded the discovery of the speaker's predicament just as he is on the brink of sorting through it all himself. I love it when an author can manipulate the read like that. You had taken me so far in, that I had forgotten about the trouble I anticipated from the title... MARVELOUS!!!

Hello Michael

The ONLY thing I would say, is to check your space after the word, *envy* ...I bwelieve I see too many spaces?
...could be my eyes.....but I'm not too blind to see the masterful work in this write.....one of the best I have lately....good luck!
