sweet heart

Missing image
mother loved tulips

when the heads pointed outward
she’d blame it on the sun

she had a sweet heart

even if nothing else was real
she had her curves

someone bought them
as a gift for her
and as she straightened
their petals
(like mother did)

I thanked my father
for marrying her

Where love blooms there is joy. You must have had a happy childhood with such love in your home. Nice piece of work.

    Brilliantly Done:

Very beautiful poem. I love the beginning about what your mother liked. And I love the ending about how you thank your father for marrying her. Now's that's love. Great job!

Lovely poem, and what a nice tribute to your mother (and your father's good taste)! I love the simplicity and the lack of capitalization and punctuation—combined with your language, they make the poem soft like flower petals. The first line is so simple but so effective, and I love last two stanzas.
