It seems we're sheep to the slaughter. It's true really. When we can be directly converted into bio-fuel we won't need wars or have to grow crops. Throw some soilent green in your tank, and fry some up for breakfast. It's the new water. Of course when we all go crazy with mad people disease they'll wait it out in their bunkers, preparing for the new utopia.

Unfortunately, we sometime find too much comfort in the "what's in it for me" circle jerk of "how bad thou art". That is how slavery is perpetuated.
I live in the heart of the oil field and it is funny how boom or bust I am equally poor. So, what am I gonna do about it? Love my neighbor, love my enemies, share what I have with those who don't and know that this is all just dust. I vote because I can and I am not afraid to turn off the television. I am not afraid to re-evaluate my motives and admit that my idea of entertainment has become disturbing.
As a result, I don't have to watch so much tv and have time for other things like fresh air, exercise and growing plants. I don't have to drive a car every day to work because I refuse to pay half my income on a car payment and it is close enough to walk. I do not own a million dollar home and I do not have to work 3 jobs in order to keep my home loan from going default. I live without credit cards and I own no stock.
People call me stupid while they wring their hands, pop pills and worry over wall street and drive overpriced gas guzzling suv's 3 blocks down the street to sit in line for 20 minutes at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
You know, around here when gas prices were around 4 bucks a gallon, a Der Wienerschnitzel opened. People sat in lines that trailed down the street for 30 minutes or more with engines running to get --ahem-- a wiener.

Actually, I will speak of decency any damn time I get ready.
It isnt the people who have decided not to tax our gasoline more. It is our government. They have no problem passing every gas tax they decide to pass. They just use us as an excuse to leave that leverage to the profits of the big oil industry. You see, if they put too much tax in the mix then we might stop driving like they have in some countries and then Exxon Mobile may not have record profits and Dubai might have to pave a street in asphalt instead of gold and Texas might have to find some other lobby to fund its political endeavors.
My point was actually greed. The greed of waiting in line for overpriced fast food burning the fuel that our young people are over seas dying over while others starve and the people who serve you make so little money that they can't pay their rent.
Greed rests in the hearts of men as does generosity. We have our priorities all mixed up and being silent is no solution. -

I believe you will find poets in here that care. I was raised in a military family that believed in the protection of the country. I am a 30 year Army veteran myself. I have stayed married for 35 years to the same woman having raised 5 children and now helping to raise 3 grandchildren. My wife is a nurse and I work for the United States Military overseas in the Middle East.
I can agree with much of your diatribe as I write columns for a political blog www.thelandofthefree.net under my real name. In fact I have been writing articles identical to your concerns since 2003.

Although your comments on society I found very insightful and agreeable, it almost seems as if you are complaining. You have to mix in solutions, or better alternatives. For the open-minded this is fantastic, but it may just anger everyone else. Love the sarcasm, keep it up.
