Change (Will It Ever Be Enough?)

Tears slither down her face
As her inner reserves collapse
She cannot hold up anymore
Against the constant expectation
Her senses are taxed – it has all been too much

And for what?
She held up against all odds for you
Sacrificing all she had left
And still you do not understand

Still you do not understand
The changes she has made
In the twisted kingdom of her mind
See how much she has progressed for you?

She has changed her inner self
Fought against her inner demons
The nasty little devils that massacred her mind
She chased them all away to live a better life with you

Do you still not understand
All the energy she has devoted?
She has given all she has for you
And still you blankly stare
As if nothing has changed at all.

For you, perhaps nothing has changed
But for her, the world has overturned
She is disoriented, trying to find a new perspective
Lost in twisting labyrinths of introspection
Determined to improve herself to fit your expectation

And still you say nothing has changed
And so the girl wonders…
Will it ever be enough?

Author notes

This started out as something random to try to get me writing again, but it turned into (a sort of messy version of) how I felt in one of my relationships.

How can I make this better?
